Nurx Review: Price, Pros & Cons

Nurx prescribes brand-name GLP-1s only, and you pay for them in two places. Nurx charges a $79 consultation fee when you request weight treatment, which covers a provider reviewing your answers and writing a plan if one is appropriate. If you're treated, there's a recurring $79 monthly provider support fee for managing your medication. Neither fee goes through insurance.

The drug itself is paid for separately, at your own local pharmacy. Nurx doesn't ship GLP-1 pens. The prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose, and you pick it up and pay there. Its lowest-dose estimates are $1,300 monthly for Wegovy and $1,000 for Zepbound. Those are pharmacy estimates, not prices Nurx sets or guarantees. Call your pharmacy for the exact figure, and remember the cash price usually rises as the dose goes up.

Nurx's providers can prescribe Zepbound, Wegovy, Saxenda, Ozempic, Mounjaro and Victoza when they're clinically appropriate. Ozempic, Mounjaro and Victoza aren't FDA-approved for weight loss, which Nurx notes on its own pages. There's no compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide.

For people who can't get or don't want an injection, Nurx also offers oral medications such as bupropion, naltrexone, metformin and topiramate, at a cash price of $60 to $329 a month depending on the plan. Those can be shipped, and insurance may cover them.

You complete an online consultation about your health history, weight goals and medication preferences. A provider licensed in your state reviews it and, if appropriate, prescribes a plan. Nurx says it will help with insurance approvals for brand-name pens.

A provider checks in about two weeks after you start to ask how treatment is going and about side effects, and can adjust your plan or prescribe something to manage them. After that you get unlimited messaging, progress tracking and diet and exercise guidance. Nurx requires regular check-ins to keep your prescription going.

Nurx is a Thirty Madison company, best known for birth control, and its providers focus on women's health. Care is offered in English only.

• Your state. Nurx says weight services aren't offered in every state, and it doesn't list which.
• Your insurance. Coverage of brand-name GLP-1s for weight loss varies widely. If your plan won't pay, the pharmacy cash price is the big number.
• The monthly fee. Budget for the $79 a month on top of the drug for as long as you're in the program.
• Eligibility. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of eating disorders, aren't eligible.
