Virta Health Review: Price, Pros & Cons

Virta Health is a virtual clinic built around nutrition. Members follow a personalized low-carbohydrate eating plan with a care team of medical providers and health coaches, all through an app. Most people get Virta free through an employer or health plan, with no copays.

If you don't have that coverage, Virta offers self-pay access: a $299 monthly membership plus a $250 one-time initiation fee. Lab work and medical clearance are required before you start. Enrollment begins with a free call with an enrollment advisor, which is the place to confirm the current fees, and you don't need a referral from your doctor.

Virta isn't a GLP-1 storefront. It describes its program as weight loss with or without medication, and says its providers can manage GLP-1 medications for eligible members. For employers and health plans it advertises GLP-1 prescribing in oral or injectable form alongside the nutrition program, plus a supervised way to taper off GLP-1s when clinically appropriate.

Virta doesn't publish medication prices. Its $299 membership price should not be treated as a medication-inclusive GLP-1 quote. If a prescription is what you're after, ask the enrollment advisor whether self-pay members can get one, which drug and pharmacy it would involve, and what the medication would cost on top of the membership.

If you pay monthly, Virta's terms say the membership renews automatically until you email support before the next charge. You can cancel within 14 days of registering for a refund, which arrives by check in four to six weeks. If you've already received the equipment, $300 is deducted from that refund. After the 14 days there are no refunds for canceling, and none if Virta suspends or closes your account.
