Steady State Health Review: Price, Pros & Cons

Steady State Health splits its GLP-1 program, which it calls Steady Metabolic, into two charges. The membership is $149 a month. Medication is ordered separately through the practice's pharmacy and billed on its own, starting at $110 a month. Together, the practice estimates a starting cost of about $259 a month.

The medication figure isn't fixed. The FAQ says it runs about $110 to $150 a month depending on what you're prescribed, so most members end up paying somewhere between $259 and $300 a month in total. One FAQ answer gives the standalone program as $249 a month, which doesn't match the $259 estimate elsewhere, so ask for your exact total on the free call.

There's also a one-time start-up cost. You need current metabolic labs before anything is prescribed. You can bring recent results from another provider, or add the practice's metabolic lab panel for a one-time $190. The GLP-1 program is cash pay only, and insurance isn't billed for it.

The practice is run by Josie Cowburn, DNP, FNP-C, a nurse practitioner who treats women in perimenopause and menopause. Her medical assistant supports you between visits. The care is built around midlife hormones and metabolism rather than the drug alone, and the GLP-1 program can be paired with the practice's hormone and ADHD programs if you want both.

The membership covers:

• Visits with Cowburn. The FAQ says at least monthly, while the program summary says at least quarterly, so ask which applies to you. Any dose change happens at a visit.
• A weekly live Zoom with a short talk and open Q&A.
• Personalized supplement lists and member discounts on supplements.
• Guidance on protein, strength training and daily movement, plus a plan for tapering off if you stop.

Both semaglutide and tirzepatide are offered. Cowburn helps choose between them based on your history, how you've responded to treatment before and your budget. The tirzepatide price isn't listed separately, so ask for it if that's the drug you want.

Prescriptions are only available to patients located in Oregon or Washington. People in other states can join the practice's non-medical coaching, but that doesn't include a GLP-1 prescription.

You start with a free 20-minute call, then a comprehensive intake visit. Cowburn reviews your full history, current medications and risk factors before recommending anything, and says she'll tell you if a GLP-1 isn't the right fit. People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, MEN2 or pancreatitis aren't candidates.

The practice doesn't name the pharmacy that fills its prescriptions, and it doesn't publish a cancellation or refund policy for the membership. Before you pay, ask:

• What your all-in monthly total will be for your drug and starting dose.
• Which pharmacy fills the medication, and how it ships.
• How to cancel the membership, and whether any notice is needed.
• How often you'll actually see Cowburn.
