Optimized Health Review: Price, Pros & Cons

Optimized Health's injectable GLP-1 programs start at $200 a month for compounded semaglutide and $250 a month for compounded tirzepatide. Those monthly figures include the medication, monitoring and visits with the clinician. They're starting rates, though. The practice says pricing can vary with your personalized protocol, and it doesn't publish what a higher dose costs, so ask during the consultation what your monthly price will be once your dose goes up.

Lab work is billed separately when the clinician orders it, and so is lab retesting later on. There's no contract, the practice is cash pay only, and HSA and FSA cards work. It gives detailed receipts if you want to claim the cost from an HSA or FSA.

This is a single clinic in Joplin, Missouri, with an in-person office and a telehealth service. The telehealth side covers five states: Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Utah and Washington. If you live anywhere else, you can only be seen by going to Joplin.

The lead clinician is Mathew Hammons, a physician assistant who writes the prescriptions and oversees every GLP-1 protocol. A small team of registered nurses handles education, nutrition guidance and coaching. The clinic is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central, and between visits you call or text the clinic directly rather than going through an app.

You start with an eligibility quiz or a consultation, and free informational calls are available if you want to ask questions first. At the first visit the clinician reviews your history, medications and goals. When it's clinically indicated, they'll order a lab panel of up to 40-plus markers, which you can have drawn at a local lab.

If you're prescribed a compounded GLP-1, a licensed compounding pharmacy prepares it and it's shipped to your door with supplies included. Optimized Health doesn't name the pharmacy. Follow-ups, by video or in person, cover dose changes, and the clinic says its visits include an InBody body composition scan.

It also offers oral options such as phentermine and Contrave, and brand-name Wegovy or Zepbound prescribing. For those routes, the clinic charges $100 for the initial visit and $59 per follow-up; the pharmacy bills the medication separately. That is a different pricing model from the bundled compounded injection program.

Appointments need 24 hours' notice to cancel or move. A missed or late-canceled appointment can carry a $50 fee. Fees are due at the time of service. The terms say refunds follow clinic policy and applicable law, but the policy itself isn't published.

• How refunds work for a month you've already paid for.
