Dr. Gillis' Wellness Center Review: Price, Pros & Cons

Dr. Gillis' Wellness Center is a walk-in medical weight loss clinic in Oakland, Maine, run by a board-certified physician and surgeon. It sells semaglutide and tirzepatide, plus oral GLP options and low-dose naltrexone and topiramate. Its current medication page lists semaglutide injections from $200 a month and tirzepatide from $300 a month. A separate $150 promotion applies only to a starting dose. Its pricing page lists each drug as a "starting at" monthly price, with tirzepatide higher than semaglutide, and a note that prices are subject to change. Expect the monthly cost to rise above the starting figure as your dose goes up, and ask for the price at your target dose.

There are a few ways to pay less:

• $25 off semaglutide or tirzepatide when you pay cash.
• $25 off for every new patient you refer who starts treatment.
• A rewards program for existing patients.
• Occasional discount vouchers for a starting dose, sold through an outside deals site and listed under the clinic's Specials tab.

The clinic doesn't take insurance. It does accept cash, checks, cards and HSA or FSA cards.

Consultations are free, and so are monthly follow-ups. New patients enroll on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 5:45 PM, no appointment needed. The clinic says it can hand you medication the same day, and a technician shows you how to give your first injection in the office. You can come back for the remaining injections each month or take them home.

There's no long-term contract. You choose a weekly, every-other-week or monthly schedule, and refills can be ordered online. The clinic also offers retatrutide as an add-on to a semaglutide or tirzepatide plan for an extra $100 a month. Retatrutide isn't FDA-approved for any use, so ask the doctor plainly what you'd be getting.

This is a local practice first. Its service-area pages list Augusta, Waterville, Bangor, Fairfield, Winslow and Newport, and the homepage talks about telehealth across Central Maine. The FAQ goes further and says telehealth is offered nationwide at no charge, but you have to call the office to arrange it. There's no online checkout for out-of-state patients, so call before you count on it.

If you're near Oakland, the walk-in model is the draw. You meet the doctor, you can leave with medication the same day, and the follow-ups don't cost extra.

• Whether the medication is compounded. The site discusses compounded tirzepatide for eligible patients, and compounded drugs are not FDA-approved.
• Which pharmacy makes it. The clinic doesn't name one.
• Refunds. No refund or cancellation policy is published. Because you pay as you go with no contract, ask what happens to any prepaid medication if you stop.
